When the UI is a status readout, a menu tree or a numeric cluster, a small TFT beats a character LCD on flexibility and beats a larger panel on cost, power and mechanical simplicity. Typical homes: medical handhelds, test instruments, smart meters, compact POS and IoT panels.
Resolution and Pixel Density at Small Sizes
Pixel density climbs fast at small sizes: a 0.99-inch round panel at 128×115 is already around 150 PPI. Two rules: pick the resolution your UI font actually needs (small text needs real pixels, not scaled ones), and prefer standard resolutions (160×128, 320×240, 480×320) so driver support and reference code are proven.
